What do we do?
Organization is something the working class does to itself, rather than
something that is done to it. To that end, we have regular meetings to
facilitate collective deliberation and decision making. Substantive
democracy is what separates left-wing organizing from the bourgeois
party organs that mimic the rituals of democracy but only as a pure form
without content. In our meetings, a member showing up for the first
time may suggest ideas as readily as long-standing members. We are open
to a great variety of strategies and tactics as long as they further the
defeat of capitalism and liberation of all. To that end, we have
embraced a wide variety of tactics from the decommodification of food
via gardening to building power through an attempt at tenant
unionization. All of these efforts have in common that they either fight
against or compete with capitalist methods of controlling capitalism's
dispossessed subjects.
The North Bay Revolutionary Leftists has never been a sectarian
organization, nor do we require our partner organizations to formally
share our beliefs about capitalism or about its replacement. We believe
that we further our cause best through solidarity work with
organizations like Palestine Solidarity Nipissing, Endaayaan Awejaa, and
the 2-Spirit & Trans Community March which share many of our values
even if their organizational form is not committed to the defeat of
capitalism. While our revolutionary and anti-capitalist analysis may
inform our evaluation of other organizations' potential, it does not
prevent us from working together with other groups when there are
suitable conditions for collaboration. Solidarity has already been part
of how we grow, it has improved our analysis, it has made us stronger,
and it has given us concrete political goals to strive for during a
moment where the imperialist-colonial capitalist system has appeared
more entrenched than ever.
